PHOENIX – The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors appointed Devin Del Palacio earlier today to fill the remainder of former Representative Diego Espinoza’s District 19 term through January. Espinoza resigned on Sept. 5.
"I've known and respected Devin for years. He's a proven community and educational leader who will add tremendously to our caucus, even if it's for a short time," said House Democratic Leader Reginald Bolding.
Del Palacio is a lifelong Arizonan and not only the first African American board member of the Tolleson Union High School District, but the Chairman of the National Black Council of School Board Members. He has brought new programs to his district, ranging from My Brother’s Keeper to Non-Discrimination Policies. In 2017, Del Palacio was recognized by the Greater Phoenix Urban League Top 40 under 40 in public service.
Del Palacio said he looks forward to joining the House Democratic Caucus even for a short period of time.
"I thank the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors for trusting me to fulfill this vital appointment to complete my friend Diego Espinoza's term," Del Palacio said. "I am truly honored by this appointment and look forward to representing the people of District 19 with the same passion and commitment I have served them over the last eight years as a TUHSD Board Member and past District 19 Chair. As always, my door is open for any community feedback, so don't hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns you’d like to discuss. Once again, thank you all for your support; I look forward to serving you in this new capacity."
